We had such a fun Halloween this year. We found a dinosaur costume for Sullivan a few months back. They were having a sale at a store and the dinosaur costume was the cutest one that fit him, so a dinosaur he was! And it just so happened that prior to Halloween he had recently discovered the movie "Ice Age 3" which has dinosaurs in it, and whenever you asked him what a dinosaur says he would make the cutest little growl ever. So, I figured that his costume was a fairly good choice. Although the true desire of his heart probably would have been to be Buzz or Woody...from his beloved Toy Story. But since he's only 1.5 we can still call the shots around here.
Sullivan dressed up as a dinosaur for daycare, and they had a little Halloween program and parade that Eric and I managed to sneak away from work for a few minutes for. It was adorable...all these little kids all dressed up. The parade involved trick-or-treating, and Sullivan wanted some of the candy that was being passed around so freely, so when he came to us, we gave him a pack of skittles to ease his aching soul. Well, then he wanted the skittles to be open, but there were three other kids on his stroller and if we opened candy for Sully then they'd all want candy, so we didn't open it for him. Well, then Sullivan ended up completely losing it, and had quite the melt-down. There he was stuck in the stroller, trick-or-treating, screaming his little head off. So, in order to salvaget the parade and not subject the rest of the parents to his horrible screaming we removed him from the stroller and did what any other horrible parent would do...and gave him the freakin' candy. And all was well in the world again. :)
That evening, at the last minute, we decided to get together with some friends for a pizza dinner and trick or treating. We hadn't come up with any costumes because we weren't planning on going to any parties, but since this last minute party had come up, we had to scramble for costumes. My amazing neighbor Emily saved us, by providing us with the best costumes ever...Waldo and Wanda. They were so simple and so comfy, and people could actually tell who we were...for the most part. What more could ask out of a costume!? We weren't all matchy-matchy with Sullivan, but that's okay...maybe next year.
It was hilarious going trick-or-treating with all these kids. Sullivan loved following the older kids around, but he didn't quite grasp the candy concept. Once the big kids got their candy they would turn and run away from the house, on to the next. Sullivan would see their change of direction and immediately start following them away from the house too, before getting his/my candy. :) It was too funny.
And one of our trick-or-treat stops was to Grandma McComber! Eric's family gets hardly any face-time on this blog, even though we actually spend quite a bit of time with them...so I think it's about high time I put a few pics of them up! Clockwise: we have a witch (Claire) and a wizard (Kevin), a dinosaur (Sullivan) and grandma, Stephanie and Justin, Patrick and Sally, and us.
I am really starting to love Halloween.
